Aylene Barr received her BA in English Education 6-12 from UNF in 2009. She has been homeschooling her three sons since 2007 with a two year break to teach at a small Christian school in Clermont, FL. She and her husband still attend Church of the Messiah where they were married twenty years ago and he is pursuing his Masters of Divinity and Ordination to the Deaconate. Her oldest son is starting college in the fall, her younger sons are pursuing their education through PEP. Mrs. Barr has long been a believer in classical education and is excited to join PEP as a tutor.
Ancient History, Conceptual Physics
Mr. Burke is privileged to have tutored various classes at PEP's first two locations in Jacksonville, and now at the St. John's campus. He is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering (BSEE), and worked as an engineer in aerospace and manufacturing industries for over twenty years. He completed an M. Div. in Pittsburgh, PA and served in the gospel ministry for over 30 years, moving to Florida in 1996 to serve as senior pastor of Ortega Presbyterian Church until his retirement in June, 2017. Mr. Burke married his best friend Vickie (McKissick) Burke in May of 1971. He and Vickie reside on the Westside and blessed with four children and six grandchildren. They homeschooled all their children and have been active with homeschooling in Kansas and here in Jacksonville in various capacities. Mr. Burke enjoys his grandchildren, reading, gardening/yard work, amateur radio (WA0MKN), and serving area churches. He is passionate about teaching young people, especially in helping them develop and apply a Christian worldview to all of life as they take every thought captive for Christ and grow to live for God’s glory (Cf. 2 Cor. 10:5; 1 Cor. 10:31).
Algebra I & II
Sara Chappell has a Bachelor of Music Performance (Cello) from Lawrence University of Wisconsin and a Master of Music Performance from the Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester). She has performed professionally in several symphony orchestras and has taught instrumental music for many years. Sara and her husband Chris homeschooled their four children for their entire pre-college education. Their youngest child presently attends PEP. For the past nine years, Sara has taught high school math classes in the Jacksonville homeschool community. She has a passion for math and science, as well as music, and enjoys imparting to students a greater knowledge of the glory of God expressed in His order and beauty in creation.
American History, Latin I, Latin II, Pre-Algebra, World History
Amber Connell has a B.S. in Psychology and Child and Adolescent Development from Liberty University. She is excited to be joining PEP this year, as she loves Classical education, and is also excited to share her expertise in history with students. Amber has taught in the public school system, and recent years, she has taught classes for home-educated students. Her homeschool family is actively involved at East Coast Church where her husband is the pastor.
Spanish I, Spanish II
Sra. Dayton grew up in Cuba and moved to the USA at the age of 16. She was blessed with Christian parents and grandparents who taught her to love the Lord and His word. From a very early age she had two passions, being a Spanish teacher and serving the Lord as a missionary. The Lord in His grace has granted her both. She served for over 20 years as a pastor’s wife and missionary in Miami, Ecuador and Mexico and has been teaching Spanish for the past 14 years, having joined PEP in 2015.
Composition & Ancient Lit (Core D), English Grammar, Old Testament Survey
Sophie Farthing received a B.A. in English at Thomas Edison State University and is currently working on her M.A. in History at Liberty University. She is involved in the music team and women's outreach at her church, Community Bible Church of Orange Park, as well as their refugee ministry. She believes that God has given each student unique gifts and strengths, and that a caring, relational environment is essential to education.
New Testament Survey, Old Testament Survey, Starting Points
Christine received a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida in 1987 and worked in a private counseling practice and an inpatient treatment facility until the birth of her first daughter over 18 years ago. Since that time she has been teaching Bible studies for women, teens, and youth in the church and throughout the community. She also speaks at various women’s and leadership events and assists her husband in his business with administration and marketing. Aside from time spending time with her husband, Stan, and her daughters Brielle and Brenna, her greatest joy is spending time in God’s Word and sharing it with others. She is thrilled to now be a part of the PEP program not only as a parent, but also as a tutor.
Saxon 8/7, Geography, Geometry, Logic Pre-Algebra
Dabney is thrilled to be returning to PEP as a tutor this year. She received her B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Memphis, and has taught in Christian schools and tutored privately for over 35 years. She is the proud mom of 6 children adopted from Mexico and Moldova, 2 of whom attended PEP while homeschooling. Her greatest joy in teaching comes from helping students discover how all knowledge points us back to our Creator, the Author and Finisher of our faith, the Lord Jesus Christ. Dabney and her photographer husband,Jeff, can frequently be found on outdoor adventures, enjoying the beauty of Creation while kayaking or hiking.
Chemistry, Government & Economics, Western Thought I, II & III
Mr. Hough has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and American Government from North Carolina State University. He served a four year tour in the US Navy where he served as an Engineering Officer and Navigator. During his service, Mr. Hough also served as Education Services Officer and assisted sailors in gaining college credits and degrees. His passion for teaching and unique experience allows him to teach sciences, math, philosophy, and theology from a grounded biblical view. He has served as Youth Director for his home church, Sunrise Community Church, for several years. Mr. Hough is married to Morgan and they have two children, Jonathan and Esther.
Medieval-Early Modern History, Modern History
Susanna Peveto brings high energy to PEP as she teaches History to the upper Cores. She has her B.A. in Political Science from Samford University. She was a stockbroker for many years, is a foster parent, and in her free time, she teaches junior and senior high classes for Bible Study Fellowship. Susanna and her husband are active members of Celebration Church.
Mrs. Williamson has a BA in English Ed. From Armstrong Atlantic State University. Over the years she has taught Latin, English, and Art at private schools and home extension programs. She joined PEP in 2016 and is excited to be partnering with parents to build a love for beauty in Art and literature.
Composition & World Literature (Core A & B)
Ashley Workman is an eternal student who loves writing, literature, and the Spanish language. She received her BA in English with a Spanish minor from the University of North Florida. Her love for teaching began when she was a teen on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic and has since continued to share her passion for the Lord through teaching. She has tutored privately and taught Composition & Literature and Spanish for many years, and is thrilled to be a part of PEP. She has been married since 2006 and she and her husband are growing their family through adoption.
