Laurie Joiner

Laurie Joiner

Algebra 1, Pre-Algebra, Math Lab

Laurie has a BA in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida. She has been teaching high school as well as tutoring and evaluating home school students for most of her adult life. She has been with PEP almost from its inception and enjoys being in partnership with parents to help her students chase their dreams. She has the experience and passion to make difficult subjects easier to digest, and she loves seeing her students progress and push themselves harder than they believed they were able. While not everyone will love math, the study of it points us to an ordered universe and a divine creator. Too many students choose their path based on avoiding the subject, but she wants her students fully equipped to pursue any course of study they desire. She has also enjoyed playing the piano for worship services at her church for many years.

Louise Leonard

Louise Leonard

Introduction to Literary Analysis (Core B)

Louise Leonard earned her B.A. in English Education from the University of North Florida, her Master's in Library and Information Science from Florida State University and has completed 18 additional hours of graduate study in English Literature at the University of Florida. She has been a teacher for over 20 years in public school, private school, charter school, and college; she realized a few years ago that she has taught students from every continent except Antarctica. Her favorite teaching position, however, was the blessing of homeschooling her own daughter from grade 3 through graduation. Working with other homeschool parents during that time really gave her a heart for the stress and anxiety so many parents feel as well as the desire to use her own skills to alleviate some of those worries. She has been married for 26 years to her husband Roger and has one daughter, Anastasia, who is currently attending FSCJ for her A.S. degree in Business Management. She then plans to transfer to the College of Central Florida where she will pursue her bachelor's degree in Equine Management with the end goal of owning her own stable. Like most of us, Louise doesn't have a great deal of free time, but when she does, she enjoys attending the Church of Eleven22 with her family, reading, thrift store shopping, and taking care of her family's two dogs, one cat, fish, turtle, and six hens.

Heidi Manzone

Heidi Manzone

American History

Heidi Manzone has a B.A. in History/Literature from the University of North Florida and a Masters in British History from UNF. She has taught history at the University of North Florida since 1997 and has been teaching middle and high school students for more than twenty years. In addition, she has been with PEP since the program came to Jacksonville in 2007. She also serves her church as the Director of Christian Education and president of its Daughters of the King chapter among other things, and spent many years homeschooling her sons, who are both graduates of PEP. She loves spending time with her family, her dogs and her cats and enjoys volunteering with various organizations in town. Heidi loves God, loves to teach, and loves to work with young people and feels blessed to be able to combine all three passions through PEP.

She is co-founder and writer for To Die Is Gain, a non-profit and ministry that encourages, exhorts, and equips women and college aged women in the church through the deep study of God’s Word, as well as a certified Precept Bible teacher. She is zealous for learning and developing a passion of reading and writing in hopes of fostering a desire for lifelong learning and growth through God’s Word, His magnificent creation, and some rich, fun, exciting, deep and clever literature sprinkled in between. Amy cherishes exploring and taking up space on the couch with her husband, Adam, and daughters, Madelyn and Elianna. They would all agree that most of the time one might find her reading or studying with Leilani, her German Shepherd, or Peaches and Zeus, her Scottish Folds.

Mark Swartz

Mark Swartz

Saxon 8/7

Mark graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from University of North Florida in 2023. He is currently working part time as an Assistant Medical Physicist, and has over 4 years of high school teaching and tutoring experience. To Mark, the joy of math and science comes from exploring the universe which God created and the mechanisms through which it works. He often uses real world connections, analogies, and stories as teaching tools in order to help students. In his downtime, Mark likes swimming, trading card games, and video games.
